IAP Summer Research Fellow, Michelle Arevalo-Carpenter, recently conducted a fact-finding mission to communities in Cambodia where IAP has partnered with grassroots organizations to act as a link between them and the World Bank. IAP and these local partners are challenging internationally financed development projects which are threatening to uproot these communities.
Michelle's work in Cambodia is documented through her striking photography of the families affected by development projects on their land. Her work tells their story.
Michelle has submitted her photo essay to PhotoPhilanthropy, whose mission is to drive social change through photography, as well as connect photographers with various charitable organizations. Entrants submit their work on behalf of the non-profit organization of their choice, in order to draw attention to their cause.
The winner of the contest will be announced in December. Prints of Michelle's work will be on exhibition at the IAP People's Guide Launch Party on December 15th, 2009.
